Karin Kytökangas
1991, from Vetlanda, Sweden
Working and living in The Hague, The Netherlands
I work with painting, performance, and sculpture. Whether it is color-theory, traditional materials, or short-lived artifacts I find it important to work by hand. The final pieces tends to be sweet and cheerful, as an attempt to cover up their inherently sad nature. My practice is influenced by the idea of a collective subconscious and a conviction that art transforms pain, it sounds very serious, so humor is a helping hand from the otherwise dark hole of mortality I seem to be staring at. I love words and text, they carry a double meaning, partly solidifying that we are here reading and present in its the works material existence, and partly that any moment now the spirit of the artwork will move into an otherworldly imagination, liberating itself.
